Behind The Scenes: A Stylist’s Guide To Travelling In Style With Antler Cabin Luggage

Generally speaking when I’m styling I like to be super organised about what I’m packing and where items are before I’ve even thought about leaving the house, as the worst thing that could ever happen on location, at a shoot or during a live TV show is to be unprepared and caught without that essential item.

Elstree Studios

However thankfully this year, during my run as a stylist on Strictly Come Dancing I have been meticulous with my preparation thanks to forward planning and the use of a very smart suitcase from Antler. Their sleek Cabin Luggage range is ideal for travelling to and from venues with a stylist kit, as not only is it chic but it’s four-wheel manoeuvrability allows me to merge swiftly with everyday commuters whilst packing everything I need into the spacious 35-45 litre capacity.

In mine you’ll always find a wide range of items from a miniature hand held steamer (a priority) to a kit bag containing an crucial sewing kit, plasters, scissors, inner soles, pens, paper, different types of tapes ranging from brown to gaffer (great for soles of shoes on studio floors) alongside an extra bag full of different sized underwear (you never know what size or extras you will need on set), belts, spare flat shoes (for me!), a phone charger and lots, lots more.

And that’s why a lightweight travel suitcase is paramount – it should be small enough to carry around but also be sizeable enough to bring onto an aeroplane cabin should you be lucky enough to fly to a short haul destination.

The Black Friday Discount Codes You Need To Know!

Adopted from our American cousins, Black Friday is the Friday following Thanksgiving Day when shopping prices are slashed (similar to those on Boxing Day) across both online and high street retailers.

Motel Rocks Black Friday Sale

Motel Rocks Black Friday Sale

If you’re thinking of getting a head start for Christmas or need any new homeware attire then my advice is to jump aboard and hit the shops early tomorrow! However most retailers have clocked onto the dates and have started their own sales early, even prolonging discounts until Tuesday (hurrah!). Most savvy shoppers though will know the best option to beat the car park and store queues is to shop online; although just be prepared for some of your favourite websites to potentially crash if consumer sales hit an all time high!

Celebrity Jeweller Vashi Dominguez Showcases Bespoke Collection Via Vashi.com

You will have seen his designs rocked on the gorgeous Cheryl Fernandez-Versini during the X Factor live shows last weekend, however if you are not familiar with Vashi Dominguez or his renowned expertise in diamonds then read on…

Browsing the exquisite website you would definitely note Vashi.com alongside a string of famous jewellery houses. The brand, which launched back in 2007, carries the world’s largest selection of customisable diamond jewellery online.

From engagement rings to pendants, striking studs to wedding jewellery, gemmologist Vashi Dominguez brings to you the most dazzling diamonds at affordable prices. Vashi himself is renowned as a diamond expert appearing on an array of TV shows including BBC News, This Morning, Chanel 4, Sky News and CNN alongside an assortment of profile pieces which have appeared in the The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, Mail on Sunday, Sunday Times, London Evening Standard, Yahoo! and London Metro to name a few – all of this not mentioning the online retailers long list of accolades as well.

Pieces that are featured online range from just a few hundred pounds to thousands and so enchanting are the settings, shapes and styles that you will instantly fall in love. Vashi.com also have on-hand diamond experts to assist you along the way. Here’s my pick of the perfect bespoke pieces from Vashi.com’s Create Your Own jewellery section…

Vashi.com Create Your Own Jewellery

Timeless and classic, a Vashi bespoke pair of earrings will wow whatever the occasion. Perfect for sophisticated soirées and upcoming Christmas parties, a pair of signature diamond earrings are a staple for any fashionista’s jewellery box. I would opt for as clear a diamond as possible (IF or VVS1) when designing or purchasing the jewels due to the enhancement in the clarity and sparkle, alongside a dazzling colour such as D. However, whatever your budget, there is something to suit everyone. Whether the cut is Round (like I’ve chosen), Princess or Asscher, team with a striking embellished LBD. This creates an eye-catching party look or you could opt to surprise a loved on on Christmas Day with a pair of delicate yet desirable diamond studs giving the full wow factor! Wear with a centre parting (as seen on the Burberry catwalk) or add a chic updo and smokey eye to create a memorable effect that really accentuates the sparkle in your diamonds.

Aside from earrings you can also create styles like this striking halo pendant (above) set in precious platinum. Apparently there is no better way to say “I Love You” than with a diamond and as Marilyn Monroe so famously sang, “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” So, partners take note! If you are looking to spoil a loved one this Christmas (or for any special occasion) then why not elect for a stunning bespoke diamond pendant. At Vashi, you can choose from a range of stunning designs, including this 21 round side stone diamond pendant that can be set with an array of sizes from 0.25ct to 5ct creating a lust-worthy piece for any diamond lover. Wear alongside a plunging neckline or jumpsuit and statement heels to really emphasize and highligh the diamond sparkle on a décolletage – perfect for the party season ahead.

Pixie Lott Rocks Charity Alphabet Scarf And Single For Matalan

Pixie Lott has been stirring up a storm on the dance floor this year with partner Trent Whiddon as part of Strictly Come Dancing, but it’s the fabulous charity inspired fashion and single that has shifted all the attention as the singer teams up with Matalan to promote a string of Alphabet scarves for AW14.

Pixie Lott in Matalan's Alphabet Scarf

Pictured above in her classic grey monogrammed accessory, the All About Tonight starlet was snapped wearing one of Matalan’s new charity scarves to help raise money and awareness for Alder Hey Children’s Charity. However, Pixie’s not the only famous personality who has been seen rocking their very own personalised accessory. Global stars such as  Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Wayne RooneyJessie J, Sarah Jessica Parker, Abbey Clancy, Nicola Roberts and Tinie Tempah have all been spotted modelling their very own personalised Alphabet scarves in aid of the children’s hospital alongside a string of well known patrons, ambassadors and patients.

The  scarves – which can be purchased in seven different colour ways ranging from A-Z – are now available to purchase both in store and online for just £10 (£5 for children’s versions) and showcase a collegiate style appliqué letter on each one; perfect for gifting loved ones this Christmas. All profits are set to go towards a brand new state-of-the-art children’s hospital, education and research centre ‘Alder Hey in the Park’ which is planned to open in 2015.

To coincide with the launch Pixie has also recorded her own version of the iconic 1986 number one, ‘Caravan of Love’, which has been released as her Christmas single and features on her new album ‘Platinum Pixie’ – with a percentage of proceeds from each single going straight to Alder Hey Children’s Charity. Speaking about the venture Pixie commented that “I am really honoured to be involved with, and supporting, Alder Hey’s Alphabet Scarves campaign. It’s a fantastic initiative and will raise much needed funds for the children’s hospital.”

So, what better way to give this Xmas than by following suit, looking stylish and supporting a good cause.

Last minute Valentine’s Day gift guide for her…

Valentine’s Day is literally upon us so with that in mind I’ve compiled a very short, but sweet, guide to the best pieces that have been spotted both online and in store; pass over to your beau and let him/her do the rest…

Classic gifts such as chocolates, flowers and jewellery will always be a winner, make sure to have the prosecco is on ice and you can’t go wrong.  Stores such as Interflora, M&S, Selfridges and all major supermarkets stock award winning bouquets, champagne’s, truffles and more, so no need to venture far if you have run out of time.

Perfume is always another certified hit and now Cartier have created their own luxurious scent aptly named La Panthère. However this sensuous number doesn’t launch in stores until April 7, (£49 for 30ml) but with a mix of floral and ephemeral notes is the perfect winner for spring and the perfect gift to pre-order for someone special. However if your beau is more of “the moment” then head direct to Penhaligon’s for one of their more heritage scents, or try their new Lily of the Valley perfume which is the official scent of London Fashion Week, boasting sweet, fresh and graceful floral tones.

Valentine’s lingerie is also a great idea if done tastefully. M&Co have a gorgeous range of underwear all for under £15 a set and are sold in a range of colours from strawberry to nude.

If your loved one favours trinkets more than aphrodisiacs then why not opt for Mulberry’s Rose Gold Metal Keyring, £70, www.mulberry.com; or Aspinal of London’s very quirky Heart Trinket Box, £95 (perfect if you are preparing to propose!).

Engagement rings are of course another mind field in themselves so you can always play safe opting for an on-trend alternative option such as Kat&Bee’s Daksha’s Rose 18ct gold ring (below left), £180, or if you want something more traditional then why not head to Arctic Circle for a range of chic styles; www.thbaker.co.uk – prices start at £1,595.

If you are planning to spend the evening in town with the gals you may want to treat yourself to a new shade of nail varnish for your manicured nails. Topshop’s Nails in Precocious (blush), £5, is a great way of getting noticed by that someone special without having to shout from the rooftops.

Lastly if you want to think outside the box and try a new experience then why not book in for a luxury spa package for two with Elemis? Their Day Spa offers everything from an exotic steam rasul therapy to a couple ritual or even detox for two; prices start from £85. For more info visit www.elemis.com.

View Trevor Undi’s enchanting video of the Erdem Spring/Summer 2014 Collection

Renowned British/Canadian filmmaker Trevor Undi, who has worked with the likes of Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga to name a few, has compiled an enchanting video to showcase designer Erdem Moralioğlu’s gorgeous new collection for spring/summer 2014.

Erdem SS14 from Trevor Undi on Vimeo.

The short film highlights several key trends for SS14 with white, sheer, monochrome and a hint of florals taking centre stage amid fabulous perspex 90s sandals and vintage 1930s-inspired sunglasses, creating a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes action of what takes place at a fashion show including the runway finale, all in an ethereal light.

Designer Erdem decided to “extract colour” (with a few exceptions) from the whole collection hence retaining the monochromatic feel, however even if the designer had taken inspiration from the 1930s cross-dressing boy, it was clear that he had spun his magic, and genius, on this collection creating a tailored look that most definitely gave feminine appeal.

The mix of biker and bomber jackets with stitched detailing, sheer outfits with embroidery and marabou style feathers on dresses appeals even more to the girl in me.

I hope this gives you inspiration for your forthcoming spring wardrobe!
