“What’s the story?” Morning Glory

When myself and a very good friend (Bobbi) were invited to the screening of Morning Glory yesterday evening, courtesy of Paramount and beauty brand Crabtree & Evelyn – who have just launched their new citron, honey and coriander body care collection which includes the Skin Cleansing Bath & Shower gel and Skin Quenching Body Lotion for morning use –  we wasn’t sure what to expect; however it transpires that this lighthearted affair was witty, amusing and above all uplifting – well, as much a girlie-go-getter romcom can be…

The cast was stellar and included a line up of Harrison Ford (who unashamedly has still got it), Diane Keaton (who does not mind one little bit making a comical fool of herself and reaps in laughs) and Rachel McAdams; who is one of those actresses’ you know you have watched before but just can’t place where (Wedding Crashers, Sherlock Holmes etc).

The synopsis? Well, the film starts by showing Becky Fuller (McAdams) as an honest, hard-working TV show producer who gets fired because the network want to bring in new, more experienced blood at a higher pay. Desperate to get a new job, and with her mother nagging, she harasses every morning TV show in the New York state until she finally gets an interview with Jerry (Jeff Goldblum) – who is desperate to hire a producer for the struggling show “Daybreak”. With some reservation from Jerry he finally offers Fuller the job which she quickly accepts – proving to be more difficult than even she might be able to handle. She instantly starts by firing the sexist yet amusing co-host and then tries to convince egotistical veteran news reporter, Mike Pomeroy (Harrison Ford), to take his job.

The rest of the story is spent with Fuller and Pomeroy trying to find some middle ground, whilst convincing him to take the job seriously as a new romance ensues with Fuller and a very sexy colleague Adam (Patrick Wilson), at the station. Watching Fuller hold onto her sanity is amusing at best, but I don’t want to spoil the end so if you need an uplift this weekend then I would suggest heading to a Odean near you…
