New York Fashion Week: Nicole Miller A/W 11

Nicole Miller’s latest offering propelled us into the future; a minimal collection which brought together digital prints and metallics in a surprisingly wearable way.

For those of you who have seen Nineties sci-fi film Gattaca, starring Jude Law, Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, you’ll remember Uma’s sharp, futuristic clothing.  It seems Miller used this as her main inspiration and built around it, introducing blue and orange shards of colour to an otherwise monochromatic collection.

The futuristic theme continued in the use of fabrics, black leather trousers, silver metallic leggings and neoprene outerwear all contributed to the sci-fi feel.  The silhouettes had an architectural, structured feel with cocoon coats, squared-off shoulders and body-con dresses with jagged, cutaway necklines.

Some may see this collection as a gloomy prediction of the future,  but I see strong statement pieces which I’d be more than happy to storm around in come winter time.
