Predominantly black, Monique Lhuillier’s Autumn/Winter collection played with texture; there were feathers, lace, ruffles and embellishment, making the collection a feast for the eyes.
The designer stated backstage that the collection was all about sensuality, and she conveyed this perfectly with the use of body hugging corsets, covered with layers of fine lace. Dresses played with the reveal and conceal concept, layering lace from translucent to opaque.
Dresses were kept close to the body, until occasionally ostrich feathers and ruffles exploded from shoulders and skirts and the tuxedo look was explored with high-waisted satin trousers and sleek evening jacket.
The collection went on to include a statement red feather dress and a cream lace number, each look was nipped in at the waist with a cute black ribbon. The black ribbon became a theme, shoes were tied around the ankle with satin ribbons and hair was piled high on the models’ heads, arranged in glossy loops, much like the bows they were wearing around their waists.
Finally, Lhuillier came into her own with a succession of gasp-inducing gowns, they came in gold ruffled tulle, sweeping midnight blue chiffon and a sumptuous red dress covered in corsages. The show ended on a high with a gargantuan black gown with drop-waist corset and ruffled tulle skirt – a truly knock-out show and I have no doubt A-listers will be fighting to wear Lhuillier’s creations at future events.
