Laureus Sports Awards 2012: best and worst dressed

Yesterday evening the Oscar-worthy line-up of celebrity and sports aficionados paved the red carpet ready for the start of the Laureus Sports Awards 2012.

Those to walk away with one of the most prestigious sports awards in the industry included the more than worthy Tennis player Novak Djokovic, whom after battling in a five hour and 53 minute epic match with Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open last weekend won best Sportsman alongside Vivian Cheruiyot (best Sportswoman – Long-distance runner), FC Barcelona for best Team and Sir Bobby Charlton for a Lifetime Achievement Award amongst others.

Now, as you may have seen from my tweeting antics I did of course dress Dame Kelly Holmes for this event and as predicted by our stylist (make-up, hair etc) team and Kelly herself black was of course the colour for the evening with everyone from actress Thandie Newton to model Bar Refaeli arriving in the stark hue. Looking stunning socialite Tamara Ecclestone also opted for an onyx coloured dress wearing a figure hugging Herve Leger choice complete with Christian Louboutin heels and clutch. Our fabulous Dame Kelly also chose an inky black Delada (Royal Lilly) dress complete with silver Jimmy Choo heels, Burberry clutch bag and a mix of Garrard and Robinson Pelham jewels.

Former F1 ace David Coulthard brought along his fiancée Karen whom decided to work one of the only coloured gowns of the night taking inspiration form the underwater and mermaid trends which are high priority for spring/summer 2012; however, as with all best dressed there must be a worst and for me on the night it was in the shape of both new Dancing On Ice judge and Olympian Katarina Witt, whose overtly fitted gold sequined gown did not do her any justice flattering her figure and retired athlete Denise Lewis. Lewis’ black ruffled gown would have been perfect if it wasn’t for the hitched up waterfall front.
