Paris Fashion Week: Lanvin autumn/winter 2012/13 collection

Celebrating designer Alber Elbaz’s 10th birthday at the helm of French fashion house Lanvin is quite an achievement and to mark the occasion Lanvin laid on tiers and tiers of birthday cake, finger sandwiches and of course, champagne.

Whilst a stellar line up of celebrity guests such as Jade Jagger and Dita Von Teese quaffed bubbles from the front row, Elbaz was lining up his colour parade of models to protrude swiftly down the catwalk.

To start a technicolor array of jewel toned and bright peplum dresses in both strapless and ruffled versions alongside matching skirts and tops were shown, as if noting that if we grown up women harked back to our 10th birthday this would be the colour spectrum we would have chosen; and Elbaz was so right.

This swiftly moved onto more grown up attire with black leather and embossed lions heads on belts giving a slight nod to warrior princess’; however, this didn’t last long as then came the brocade, lace, jewels and opulent materials we were so desperately craved with cascading waves of materials leading finally into the fun cocktail dresses which were printed, bejewelled and curvaceous as well as offering fur coats to wrap up in: this was defiantly a collection I would like to adorn if I was celebrating a special birthday next season…
