Olivier Awards 2012: Kara Tointon – get the look

Firstly huge apologies I have not blogged in so long. I have had a manic past two weeks prepping, styling and sorting returns for celebrity clients whom include the gorgeous Kara Tointon and fabulous Olympic Ambassador Dame Kelly Holmes. Alongside this I’ve been working a lot with www.whatbesttowear.com whom I write all their social season fashion and beauty tips for.

You may have noticed in the papers and online yesterday that Kara was in fact was regarded very highly on most of the best dressed lists which – for a stylist – can be no bigger accolade. Therefore when trying to achieve the same style why not splurge the cash (if you have it) on a duplicate Minka dress by Alice+Olivia at Oxygen Boutique (38 Eastcastle Street, w1). Team with nude Christian Louboutin heels and a black clutch bag (also from Louboutin) and finish with black diamonds courtesy of Garrard jewellers.

However, if you are more save than splurge head straight to the high street or online where stores such as Lovely’s Vintage will be stacked with 1920s flapper style gowns: Www.goddiva.co.uk also offer great inspiration. When trying to source nude peep toe heels look no further than stores such as Dune, Aldo, Dorothy Perkins, River Island et al; they all have similar options which can also be used for smart work wear situations. To emulate the black diamond effect head straight to Topshop where their in-house brands alongside concessions such as Mikey will take all the hard work out of looking for you…..

Happy shopping!

London Fashion Week: Jean-Pierre Braganza spring/summer 2012 collection

Designer Jean-Pierre Braganza put on a sport lux and architectural display for his spring/summer 2012 womens wear collection this afternoon.

Taking inspiration from the Cornish coast, Braganza referenced such artists as Ben Nicholson (a British painter of abstract compositions) alongside architect Mies van der Rohe and swiss surrealist H R Giger showing clothing that was architectural in design and pattern, and mixed with geometric shapes with sharp and neutral colours. .

Key pieces came at the end of the show with geometric printed dresses, and a fabulous coral pink 70s style key cut halter neck jumpsuit; all wearable and fun. Fabrics were light and airy and included jersey, silk and cotton, producing draped and tailored pieces in a palette of black, lemon, white, pinks, and dove grey.

Jewellery and shoes were also strong combining suede and leather cut out heels and shoe boots with some lace up fronts, powered with over exaggerated long and thin leather clutch bags in grey and black, combined on occasion with statement bib style jewelled necklaces.

Hair was again overseen by Indira Schauwecker for TONI&GUY and emulated an almost bouffant style front on some models, with others adorning a side parting, leading to what seemed like a tight high fish tail plait at the back, however, this style was carefully constructed by using label.m volume moose to layer and manipulate the hair into shape, along with redirection style dust to distress two pony tails together in a tight plait which hung perfectly as the models strode down the catwalk. Make up saw striking 80s blush in almost fuchsia pink smeared across cheekbones with nude lips and white powder under the eyes to contrast the strong hues below whilst eye brows were sleek and strong.

In his release Braganza added that “Fashion is about capturing emotion in a glance. My challenge is to create the most esoteric dress for that exact moment, ” – which he clearly has done for spring/summer 2012.

Shows continue later today with Basso & Brooke and PPQ amongst others….

Menswear Spring/Summer 2012 trends from Milan Fashion Week

If you didn’t already know Milan is currently hosting a fashion week for menswear and in true fashion style we are looking ahead; way ahead it seems, to the trends of Spring/Summer 2012.

Vivienne Westwood MAN menswear spring/summer 2012 collection

Vivienne Westwood MAN menswear spring/summer 2012 collection

Like all great fashion weeks it includes collections from some of the worlds biggest designer brands including Dolce & Gabbana, Viktor & Rolf, YSL and Dior, with a classic twist on our biggest sporting event for decades.

Yes that’s right, as designers for next season have chosen to centre their entire collections and main trends on male pastimes and sport, creating a hybrid of sporting hero’s in fashion just in time for next year’s 2012 Olympics.

Opening her show with a model wearing a poignant blazing torch t-shirt, Dame Vivienne Westwood noted “Next year London will be hosting the Olympic Games. We therefore dedicate this collection to the event and to the thousands of athletes who will participate.” But it didn’t stop there as high-end designers such as Prada went golfing with their collection throwing in an array of knits, trousers and flat caps all in floral and pastel tones. Navy blue and black hues were also mixed in to draw attention from the western style scarves wrapped around the models necks and studded shirts.

To help your partner create this overall look think epic blockbuster Gangs of New York in 1900s buttoned down collars with large stripes and a clash of fabrics. However, for evening wear head straight for two-tone metallic suits circa mid 1990s with tapered legs; match with cummerbunds and spotted handkerchiefs. Block colour also seems to be a staple-staying trend again across the board as DSqaured2 showed in their collection, paying homage to Greek gods half-dressed in skinny purple chinos and jeans that were preppy and fun, whilst Gucci showed an array of fine knits, fitted jackets and two-piece tailoring.

All-in-all your beau should be well honed for next season à la David Beckham.

Shows continue this week with Givenchy, Hermes, Lanvin et al.

Britney bounces back in Dolce & Gabbana

For all the love I have for Britney Spears, she seems to have definitely bounced back more times than Charlie Sheen’s addictions, so with this in mind I wasn’t surprised to hear that she was launching yet another new album; however, I was surprised to learn that Dolce and Gabbana were showing her as their new muse and music icon.

Usually synonymous with sexy, powerful, women such as Scarlett Johansson and Kylie Minogue , Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have turned a new fashion corner professing that they “love Britney, and we love to dance to her new songs! We can’t wait to hear the whole album!”

“She has always been among our favourite artists because she has been able to remain true to herself and to her style throughout the years. With her music she influenced and inspired generations of people for more than 10 years, always staying at the top, and we can’t but congratulate her for this new, important achievement.” Wowzers, they really are fans.

So what are the iconic design duo dressing Britney in for her latest album promotional images? A selection of couture-esque gowns, polka dot body suits, basques and underwear. The mother-of-two, 29, can obviously pull this off, but how will her Femme Fatale album fair? The decision they say, is yours…
