Firstly apologies for no blogs for some time! I have been working with the very lovely InStyle.co.uk team covering as their Acting Web Editor for the interim but am now back to my normal routine as a freelancer. And the next few weeks will see some exciting changes to my schedule, but non more so than heading back to view the latest instalment of collections for Spring Summer 2014 at London Fashion Week. However, before the jet set fashionistas hit London they of course contend with the multitude of talent in New York at the bi-annual Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Designers to have already shown consist of Diane von Furstenberg, Thakoon, DKNY and Derek Lam amongst others. Aside from the return of the monochromatic palette there has also been a surge in gingham, yellow and navy. DKNY (who recently shot Rita Ora for their upcoming ad campaigns) is of course celebrating its 25th anniversary this year harking back to its original street style showcasing playful twists on denim, sports luxe and bright colours. The R.I.P singer also made an appearance on the catwalk showcasing Donna Karan’s forthcoming 90s inspired designs for next season.

Victoria Beckham followed suit with a phenomenal addition of bright colours amid crisp white shirts and jet black hues adding in amazing triangle prints and softer and looser silhouettes, making the perfect combination for both work and play for her SS14 range, while husband David Beckham, daughter Harper and Vogue US editor-in-cheif Anna Wintour all watched on from their front row seats.

First Lady fav Alexander Wang also impressed with his clerical collars, super-mini kilts, boxer style shorts, muted palette and stellar front row (Kanye West, Courtney Love and Terry Richardson) while one of my all time favourite designers (who creates amazing red carpet pieces) Monique Lhuillier opted for bright tangerine and cerise tones amongst a contrasting white, cream and gold backdrop… simply stunning.

NYFW continues until Thursday 12th September 2013…

David Beckham hits fever pitch for H&M

Aside for the designer collaborations at H&M (think Versace, Marni et al) I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed a fashion frenzy like this before (correct me if I’m wrong!). Today, after a hugely long anticipated wait, this clever marketing team at high street fav H&M have placed an array of oversized shopping bags at a handful of locations across London bearing David Beckhams body before his underwear launch hits stores tomorrow morning.

The bag locations include London Bridge, Covent Garden, Pottersfield and both Westfield shopping centres. The clever Sweedish brand have also leaked another marketing tool via YouTube which shows a video of Beckham in his own designs. This is set to be released on Sunday February 5, during the second quarter of the NFL Super Bowl championship final and in the U.K. during the live Manchester United vs Chelsea match.

The black and white 30-second film-noir style advert encases the footballer to the sound of Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood by The Animals.

Beckham has commented on his enthusiasm stating that: “I’m excited about my Bodywear ad featuring in this year’s Super Bowl.

“My design team and I spent 18 months developing the collection, it’s been a fantastic collaborative experience, and I’m very happy with the end result.

“Like every fan, I’m looking forward to Super Bowl Sunday.”

We can’t wait either…

Football and soccer legend, and now father of four, David Beckham has just announced that he will be launching a clothing line with Swedish high street chain H&M.

Beckham’s new collection will be named Beckham’s Bodywear, being sold in over 1,800 stores worldwide. It is not sure what designs will be included but as Beckham has been the pin-up for Armani underwear before we are sure that this may contribute somewhat to his new collection.

In the past H&M have collaborated with such greats as  Karl Lagerfeld, Lanvin and Madonna, however, Beckham’s designs are not set to be a one-off collaboration noting that his new collection will be the start of a very long partnership with the company, adding new products every season.

Beckham has stated that, “Over the past year, I’ve been developing my Bodywear range with my team and I’m extremely positive about what we have designed and produced.

“The final piece in the jigsaw was a retail partner who has the vision and capability to distribute these products globally. In H&M we have found the perfect partner to collaborate with going forward, I’m excited and looking forward to showcasing the range to H&M customers from February.”

Beckham’s Bodywear Collection is expected to launch in H&M stores on Valentine’s Day 2012: I think an obvious choice as a great present for your loved one…

Menswear Spring/Summer 2012 trends from Milan Fashion Week

If you didn’t already know Milan is currently hosting a fashion week for menswear and in true fashion style we are looking ahead; way ahead it seems, to the trends of Spring/Summer 2012.

Vivienne Westwood MAN menswear spring/summer 2012 collection

Vivienne Westwood MAN menswear spring/summer 2012 collection

Like all great fashion weeks it includes collections from some of the worlds biggest designer brands including Dolce & Gabbana, Viktor & Rolf, YSL and Dior, with a classic twist on our biggest sporting event for decades.

Yes that’s right, as designers for next season have chosen to centre their entire collections and main trends on male pastimes and sport, creating a hybrid of sporting hero’s in fashion just in time for next year’s 2012 Olympics.

Opening her show with a model wearing a poignant blazing torch t-shirt, Dame Vivienne Westwood noted “Next year London will be hosting the Olympic Games. We therefore dedicate this collection to the event and to the thousands of athletes who will participate.” But it didn’t stop there as high-end designers such as Prada went golfing with their collection throwing in an array of knits, trousers and flat caps all in floral and pastel tones. Navy blue and black hues were also mixed in to draw attention from the western style scarves wrapped around the models necks and studded shirts.

To help your partner create this overall look think epic blockbuster Gangs of New York in 1900s buttoned down collars with large stripes and a clash of fabrics. However, for evening wear head straight for two-tone metallic suits circa mid 1990s with tapered legs; match with cummerbunds and spotted handkerchiefs. Block colour also seems to be a staple-staying trend again across the board as DSqaured2 showed in their collection, paying homage to Greek gods half-dressed in skinny purple chinos and jeans that were preppy and fun, whilst Gucci showed an array of fine knits, fitted jackets and two-piece tailoring.

All-in-all your beau should be well honed for next season à la David Beckham.

Shows continue this week with Givenchy, Hermes, Lanvin et al.

Watches: Celebrity ‘Boyfriend’ watches

Do you remember back in the early 00’s when velour tracksuits hit our high streets, the orange tan phase started (or regenerated – depending on how old you are), and everyone wanted to dress boho-chic like Sienna Miller? Well, around that time there was another style movement happening; bling.

Whilst JLo was singing about how many ‘rocks’ she had in her block, celebrities worth their salt were making rad purchases, and none more extravagant than David Beckham and his watch collection. At the time Becks was playing for Real Madrid in Spain, earning over a £100,000 per week and notoriously brought himself a diamond encrusted Jacob & Co watch, which had a cult celeb following for stars such as P.Diddy. Then in 2004 Beckham and George Clooney both posed for Police to advertise their range of watches. But more than this, he started a trend for all oversized bling watches which then filtered down into even the cheapest high street store chains, making them accessible to women and hence becoming known as ‘the boyfriend watch’.

Since then boyfriend watches have sold in billions, and notably become more and more popular since the launch of Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors rose gold collections last year. This season their latest spring/summer ranges are so popular that every fashionista worth their weight are adorning them. So I’ve picked out the 5 best ones on the market for you to lust after. Team with nude tailoring at work, or with a preppy shift and canvas trainers for sunny days by the beach…

Happy shopping.

David Beckham launches a clothing line

Ladies who lust after David Beckham be grateful as now you can dress your man like the super-star ‘soccer’ hero, as Becks himself is set to launch his own ‘bodywear’ collection and cologne.

“I have had the idea of doing a bodywear collection for some time now. The push to do something of my own really came as a result of my collaboration with Armani,” Becks told WWD.

Becks, 35, is set to launch his debut scent ‘Homme by David Beckham’ in September, however there is no set date yet for his underwear line. I’m thinking though that the clothing line will be laid back LA cool, with slim fitting Tees, boxer shorts and under pants that rival cK!

After four seasons of modelling underwear for ‘Armani’ Becks must have picked up a few notes and has started to translate them into his own designs. Not wanting to compete with pregnant wife Victoria, 36, Becks is said to be working alongside Victoria’s ex band manager of the Spice Girls, and now full-time business manager for her brands, Simon Fuller, to help launch his products.

Becks, who retired from football last year, and was the fifth highest-earning athlete in 2010, was also named as Forbes magazines 35th most powerful celebrity, which must bring some clout to his expanding empire.

Fuller also motioned that “David and I have a number of ambitious and exciting ideas in development across a broad range of categories. The next 10 years will see David evolve into being recognised, not just as an iconic sports figure, but also as an important entrepreneur.”

And they said that there was no life after football…

Victoria Beckham pregnant

Victoria Beckham’s representatives have announced that she is expecting her fourth child.

Reports in the Daily Mail suggest the Spice Girl-turned-fashion-designer is pregnant again and due this summer. She and hubby David must be thrilled whilst their other three children, Brooklyn, 11, Romeo, 8, and Cruz, 5, are apparently “very excited” about the news.

Previously Victoria has spoken out about her desire to have a daughter, but in the latest edition (February issue) of Vogue had said: “Maybe one day another baby, but at this stage I think the chances of a girl are quite slim.” Apparently not, as she now joins her fellow band mate Emma Bunton –  who has just started back as a main judge on Dancing On Ice, this weekend – in the celeb pregnancy gang for 2011.
