All Hail The Summer Sale…

So summer was officially here (last week) and has since slipped into a weather coma sprouting fine showers and dull grey clouds, however if you’re still psyched for a sunnier climate (which should hopefully be returning soon) then the launch of the summer sales this week should turn that Monday frown upside down.

If you’re looking to update your wardrobe with classic designer wear which will last the test of time then why not head straight to and whom are both slashing up to 50% off(!) online and in store.

Luxury high street stores such as Jaeger are also offering huge discounts with up to 50% on menswear, womenswear and accessories whilst retail favs H&M, Oasis, New Look, River Island and Warehouse to name a few are also cutting down the price on some super-saving pieces that will brighten up any holiday suitcase.

In these frugal times the art to a great sale shop is not to splurge because everything is super cheap but instead think carefully about what pieces in your current wardrobe have seen better days, and then try to replicate them. Good staple pieces are also key such as workwear dresses or jeans, that will last months rather than one wear, and generic beach wear like denim shorts and bright vests which you know will run from season to season.

If you do sale purchase on impulse then that’s fine too, just remember to pick something such as a statement bag or dress which you know you will wear for a certain summer occasion or event.

Possibly the best news to date for British heritage brand Aquascutum is that they have been saved from administration today by an exclusive agreement with YGM Trading Limited.

After weeks of stress and worry for all those employees and managers which were involved – and currently in limbo – the news has now finally spread that the Hong Kong based company which already controls Aquascutum’s licences in Asia is set to “acquire the on-going business and assets with completion to take place by May 9, 2012; ” involving an £8 million pound loan.

Speaking earlier today Geoff Rowley, joint administrator at FRP stated that: “The joint administrators have been very encouraged by the significant interest shown in the business over the last two weeks and have chosen to proceed with the offer that delivers the best outcome for the creditors of Aquascutum.”

It has also been noted that administrators are continuing negotiations to secure a buyer for the company’s manufacturing plant in Corby, Northamptonshire, which was closed on April 19.  However there is no deadline linked to this.

London Fashion Week: Jaeger London Spring/Summer 2012 collection

Causing a fashion frenzy front row at Jaeger London’s spring/summer 2012 show was reality actress and model Olivia Palermo. Sat alongside her was fashion ambassador/model Laura Bailey, singer Pixie Lott and fashion stylist Brix Smith Start whom all hushed quickly as the show lights went down.

For next season Stuart Stockdale, Design Director at Jaeger, had incorporated a very ladylike collection reminiscent of the 1960/70s, adding wide brim flat hats, smart tailored suits, blouses and dresses, all with triangle cut-out detailing in monochrome and navy tones.

It was followed by mustard and bright red/blue/yellow stripes on cute nipped in dresses, tops and shorts alongside fun accessories such as oversized sunglasses, block heel shoes in sunset orange and oversized handbags, which looked like it could double up for the beach.

Stockdale also brought in soft caramel hues that was again used to complement culottes, a-line skirts and jackets, but before this showed pastel mint, baby pink, saffron yellow and coral pink clothing in the shape of matching suits, pinafore dresses shorts and bib collared shirts.

It seems the Jaeger London collection for next summer is for a woman who knows her own style and albeit may sometimes be conservative and contemporary with layered lace and structured pieces, always has a few ‘fun’ things tucked away in her wardrobe.

But it was of course Miss Palermo who stole the show, as the paparazzi had saved the last shot for her – and what good promotion it was for the brand, as she adorned a Boutique by Jaeger spot blouse and accessoried with a Jaeger London catwalk satin clutch, stopping (fashion) traffic on the way out…

London Fashion Week: Jaeger autumn/winter 2011 collection

Albeit a quiet start to the second day at London Fashion Week, a few celebs turned out to watch Jaeger’s latest autumn/winter 2011 collection at Somerset House early this afternoon, which included T4 presenter Jameela Jamil in the audience, in a cute peach strapless dress.

The collection was a nice change from jade and pink – which has been seen at quite a few shows – and brought fresh innovations, such as the mohair lapels on tux jackets, and aforementioned sleeveless gilets-type waistcoats.

The colour palette was mustards, khaki, black and tweed, with models wearing sleek pony tails and minimal make-up. A country-esque nod came from the Harris style tweed jackets and trousers, but the most promising piece was a long black wool maxi coat which flowed softly behind the model as she walked.

There was also an array of accessories which consisted of fur-lined beanies and elbow-length gloves, and towards the end came flashes of burnt orange skirts and jackets, along with a slashed fuschia shirt. Who says winter has to be dull?

Win free tickets to Jaeger catwalk show at London Fashion Week

Fabulous heritage fashion brand Jaeger, and iconic mobile phone network Vodafone UK, have joined forces to offer 200 lucky customers the opportunity to win free tickets to watch Jaeger’s spring/summer catwalk show for 2011, during London Fashion Week next month.

The catwalk collections, which are usually shown to celebrities, buyers, international press and fashion editors alike six months before they are officially launched in-store, will now be previewed by these 200 lucky winners instead, just as they are starting to be filtered into stores around the country from now until the end of the summer. This means if you are lucky enough to win tickets, you’ll be ahead of the trends – and your friends – before anyone else.
