That’s right folks our fav songstress Rihanna has just announced that she is set to collaborate with high street chain River Island to design her first EVER clothing range.

Riri first visited the UK-based store back in February and it seems the designs not only caught her eye but were also quickly added to her wardrobe as she has since been spotted out in some of the brands pieces. According to River Island’s Style Insider blog Riri approached THEM to collaborate and knowing her style we can only imagine how colourful and fabulous the collection will be.

Speaking about the collaboration Rihanna noted: “I’ve been wanting to design my own collection for some time. River Island is the perfect partner for me to collaborate with and working with a British, family run business also really appealed to me. I find London really inspiring and River Island loves to have fun with clothes. I’m looking forward to working with them and creating something really special.”

Rihanna’s collection for River Island will launch in Spring 2013.

Legend of hair Vidal Sassoon dies aged 84

Vidal Sasson and Mary Quant

If you are really into styles and change your hair to follow every celebrity such as the ‘Pob’ al la Victoria Beckham or the Cheryl Cole long bob then remind yourself quickly where these inspirational looks came from: Vidal Sasson.

The master of hair died yesterday aged 84 of natural causes after a long battle with leukaemia at his LA home.

British born Sasson was known for his innovative styles in the 1960s bringing to the party his 5-point-cut which liberated women’s hairstyles after a decade or more of wash and dry beehives and bouffants. Sassoon soon became the darling hair stylist of Europe with his infamous “wash and wear hair” which enabled women to just wash and go; something that had never been possible before. Sassoon was also a huge fixture on the 1960s swinging Carnaby fashion scene, styling models for fashion designer Mary Quant. Aside from this he built up a beauty empire of under his name and released several autobiography’s on his life amongst a long list of other projects.

Born in Hammersmith, London on 17 January 1928 Sasson was soon evacuated during the war to an orphanage. He then returned to London aged 17  where it was noted that his ‘mother took him to a barber shop in Whitechapel and insisted he was given an apprenticeship,’; the rest they say is history.

However, he will always be remembered as a genius of hair and a revolutionary giant for his time.

RIP Vidal Sasson.

For months now I’ve been spotting Mollie King in magazine’s and online looking effortlessly chic in any given situation. So it is no wonder that British heritage brand Aspinal have also picked up on the starlet naming her today as their new Ambassador for the brand.

Furthermore Aspinal have already launched a satchel in honour of their new ambassador aptly named ‘the Mollie Satchel’. This quintessentially structured bag comes in an adorable three shades (black, tan and beige) alongside a prominent price tag of £450; all crafted in the finest Italian calf leather. It also hosts enough room for your iPad plus daily essentials.

Aside from this if the rumours are to be believed then Prince Harry’s new beau will be following in the footsteps of former-flame, lingerie model Florence Brudenell-Bruce, who fronted Aspinal’s autumn/winter 2011 campaign.

Milan Fashion Week: Dolce & Gabbana autumn/winter 2012/13 collection

With their diffusion line no longer showing Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have put all their extra energy into their mainline collection at Milan Fashion Week.

For autumn/winter 2012/13 their range (not too dissimilar to the attention of Temperley and Issa London with their Russian and Trans-Siberian influences) was a magical display of black velvet and gold brocade which the models were swathed in. Their signature design was not only shown in the clothing (on the décolletage of jackets, mid drift on dresses etc) but was also continued throughout on footwear and accessories including jewellery and headpieces.

Lace and sheer fabrics were also a big theme as these Russian dolls adorned beautifully crafted cocktail dresses with cut-out panels replaced by translucent materials and boned corseting; opulent to say the least. Fur stoles with matching bags, laced-up ankle boots and luxurious capes which were also crafted or sewn with gold thread. White lace dresses alongside black lace dresses that appeared to be leopard print but was in fact lace with laser cut flower appliqués dotted carefully across the body to give a different illusion. This was also the case with silver lace and pearls.

To end models adorned black lace veils, cute velvet bloomer-like shorts with floral beading on and ruffled white flamenco style tops and dresses. There was also a section of folk style dresses with floral patterns alongside chintzy prints on black silk day dresses. Lady-like bags were key but all in all this is one collection that will be setting high street trends come autumn.

David Beckham hits fever pitch for H&M

Aside for the designer collaborations at H&M (think Versace, Marni et al) I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed a fashion frenzy like this before (correct me if I’m wrong!). Today, after a hugely long anticipated wait, this clever marketing team at high street fav H&M have placed an array of oversized shopping bags at a handful of locations across London bearing David Beckhams body before his underwear launch hits stores tomorrow morning.

The bag locations include London Bridge, Covent Garden, Pottersfield and both Westfield shopping centres. The clever Sweedish brand have also leaked another marketing tool via YouTube which shows a video of Beckham in his own designs. This is set to be released on Sunday February 5, during the second quarter of the NFL Super Bowl championship final and in the U.K. during the live Manchester United vs Chelsea match.

The black and white 30-second film-noir style advert encases the footballer to the sound of Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood by The Animals.

Beckham has commented on his enthusiasm stating that: “I’m excited about my Bodywear ad featuring in this year’s Super Bowl.

“My design team and I spent 18 months developing the collection, it’s been a fantastic collaborative experience, and I’m very happy with the end result.

“Like every fan, I’m looking forward to Super Bowl Sunday.”

We can’t wait either…

So, here we are the big 2012 already and with a humongous year behind us we push through into the Olympics and 2012 which was firmly orientated by the New Year’s Eve fireworks in London. Augmenting London’s place in history the fireworks over the Thames in front of the Millennium Wheel and Big Ben, alongside the Houses of Parliament lasted a stunning 10 minutes costing approximately £1.8million of tax payers money. Apparently the pyrotechnics alone cost £282,000 whilst £559,000 was noted to have been spent on crowd control for the estimated audience. Spectacular none the less here they are below…

As over 250,000 people draped the Thames to watch this showing which followed on from the likes of Sydney, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Berlin, amongst others, it truly was an occasion to remember…
