Weekend Wear: Boyfriend Jeans

The staple pair of jeans always comes to the rescue whether it be for a dress down day at work, casual day out or evening dinner with friends; so this weekend instead of donning your favourite skinnies why not opt for the original dress down style with a pair of Boyfriend Jeans.

You may have guessed that the name is of course derived from partners stealing their ‘Boyfriend’s jeans’ which are usually looser fitted and more comfortable. The oversized slack jeans were usually teamed with a casual tee for a real 90s vibe. However, what you may not have noticed as that they’ve made a revival in recent months with celebs and fashion editors alike adorning their favourite pairs to work, dinner dates and casual weekends away: plus they’re also great due to the fact they don’t make your bum look big or skim your thighs too much.

For a work day vibe add strappy sandals and turn up the jeans; mix with a statement necklace and slouchy tee for a new season take. For the weekend add a lumberjack style shirt and pointed courts for casual dinner dates or rock with Converse for a chilled day out with the family. It’s really that simple…

SS13 Trends: Neon Hues

For spring/summer 2013 designers literally used every print and colour under the sun to adorn their collections with and none stood out more than the neon trend.

A flashback from the 90s neon hues used to incorporated yellow acid happy face tees and glow sticks but are now back with a bang in a sophisticated style becoming more grown up, sassy and tailored. Fashion houses such as Simone Rocha, Paul Smith, Gucci, Osman and Diane von Furstenberg to name a few all opted for fuchsia pink, acid greens and yellows alongside burnt orange shades to help pack a fashion punch to their designs.

Whether it was shown on billowing blouses, laced panels, high-end tailoring or frills, fluoro fashion is back and hitting a store near you.

If you don’t think you can pull off the look then think again. Online and high street retailers have brought out some great options for SS13 and here are just a few of my fav pieces that I’ve spotted…

Team daytime work pants with accents of neon via statement jewellery or workplace heels; or go full on for a day at the races, a wedding or special occasion in a neon inspired dress.

If you don’t want to be too bulchy about the look then just add smaller pieces into your outfit with a ring, earrings or clutch bag.

Royal Ascot Dress Code: What To Wear

Today is the start of Royal Ascot, an annual equestrian event that runs throughout the week culminating with the Diamond Jubilee Stakes on Saturday 22 June 2013.

Each day is different with a variety of stakes or races hosted and of course attended by the Royal Family and HM The Queen.

If you have tickets or are attending but are not sure what to wear to the event then click below for the full low-down on the correct dress code.

Royal Ascot Dress Code

With over 300,000+ visitors per year it’s obviously obligatory to dress in the right manner and make a style statement on the course. So, with that in mind I’ve pulled together some of my favourite pieces that are currently either online or in store for you to see.

Just remember that Thursday 20 June 2013 is Ladies’ Day (also Gold Cup Day) so an emphasis on fashion will be shown all round including everything from the style of hat or headpiece you wear to the heels on your feet.

You can also pick your perfect choice of outfit from one of Spring/Summer 2013’s hottest trends which include stark black, pristine white, iridescent fabrics, clashing prints, neon hues, pastel shades and many more. Just remember to add statement jewellery or heels to your accessories arsenal for a fabulous finish…

Designer Look For Less: Collar-Less SS13 Jackets

For spring/summer 2013 designers sent an array of colourful concoctions down the catwalk including neon hues, stark black palettes and pristine white solutions.

However, amid these party and office-ready pieces were a mix of pastel hues in the form of daytime jackets. These new collar-less coats that are usually embellished with mirror-esque panels and opulent brocades alongside cotton mix materials for the lightweight look are perfect for the start of summer when temperatures are apparently set to soar.

Designer Isabel Marant chose a gorgeous pastel floral/Ikat design to adorn hers with, complete with a whopping price tag of £1,845 (available at net-a-porter.com, above left). If you love the look but want to opt for something more on budget why not head straight to the high street where stores such as Monsoon – which stock this amazing ‘Camilla’ jacket (£89, above right); my personal fav – are showing a huge assortment of creations.

Asos.com also has this fab collar-less Tape Front Boxy Jacket (£55, above left) which is perfect for festivals. Team with skinny jeans, a vest and high tops for a casual day time look or add a fab body-con dress and sky scraper heels for a Saturday night out.

For the younger generation Boohoo.com also offer a great variety of styles including this Aztec ‘Layla’ jacket (£45, above right) with quilted white sleeves; great for everyday use.

All Hail The Summer Sale…

So summer was officially here (last week) and has since slipped into a weather coma sprouting fine showers and dull grey clouds, however if you’re still psyched for a sunnier climate (which should hopefully be returning soon) then the launch of the summer sales this week should turn that Monday frown upside down.

If you’re looking to update your wardrobe with classic designer wear which will last the test of time then why not head straight to Harrods.com and My-Wardrobe.com whom are both slashing up to 50% off(!) online and in store.

Luxury high street stores such as Jaeger are also offering huge discounts with up to 50% on menswear, womenswear and accessories whilst retail favs H&M, Oasis, New Look, River Island and Warehouse to name a few are also cutting down the price on some super-saving pieces that will brighten up any holiday suitcase.

In these frugal times the art to a great sale shop is not to splurge because everything is super cheap but instead think carefully about what pieces in your current wardrobe have seen better days, and then try to replicate them. Good staple pieces are also key such as workwear dresses or jeans, that will last months rather than one wear, and generic beach wear like denim shorts and bright vests which you know will run from season to season.

If you do sale purchase on impulse then that’s fine too, just remember to pick something such as a statement bag or dress which you know you will wear for a certain summer occasion or event.

Weekend Wear: SS13 Dungarees For Any Age

Temperatures are reportedly set to soar over the weekend and well into next week so if you are planning on attending a festival, hanging out with friends or joining the family BBQ what better way to stay cool than to adorn the cute 1970s staple; the dungarees.

Most fashion havens are now offering us this classic denim wear in the form of dungaree shorts, however dependant on your age (and of course style) you may already be reading this and running for the hills. But before you do I urge you to read on and think style appropriately about how indeed you would wear this new spring/summer ’13 micro trend…

In your 20s;

OK so you’re not a teenager anymore but that still doesn’t mean you can’t experiment with clothing. Being in your twenty’s is all about expression and fashion that relates to your personality so why not up the fashion ante and opt for dungarees in the denim short variety? They don’t have to be the classic dark denim either as celebs such as Rihanna, Mollie King and Perrie Edwards have all been spotted in this rehashed shape and style. Opt for a fitted crop top for a real 90s vibe or add a tribal printed baggy tee for a real festival vibe. Just remember to add plenty of bulky statement jewellery a la Rita Ora and you’re half way there. Add a pair of converse or Tom style flats for day or take inspiration from Jameela Jamil for evening mixing them with a buttoned up shirt underneath and blazer complete with pointed heels for a quirky style.

In your 30s;

Fashion is fun and not always practical. So when digging out your closet to head to work on a dress down Friday remember that. If you snarl at the thought of dungarees then please take note. Opting for a skirt style dungarees in a different shade or print (say dark denim/black/pastel/stripes or floral for example) can really work to your advantage. Team with a Breton striped or plain top for a more Riviera style chic and add a colourful or statement belt to cinch in your waist and help divert attention away from the top half should you not be too sure on the look. Again this will also look fab should you add a printed or plain shirt underneath plus a blazer and golden cuff for a more serious day time look.

In your 40s;

Fashion is for kids, right? WRONG. You can still look très stylish even if you are 40+. If you have always been a fan of this trend then the best way to replicate it is to opt for the full length dungarees. Think less romper/onesie and more Heidi Klum chic. Add a billowing shirt underneath and strappy sandals with the leg parts rolled up for a fun evening look or in colder weeks try a polo neck underneath teamed with patent loafers for a real style winner.
