The BRIT Awards 2012 nominees

For the past twelve months one women’s voice alone has dominated the charts both sides of the Atlantic with her multi platinum selling album (21) and showering us with concerts (some of which had to be cancelled due to throat surgery) and her phenomenal singing ability; therefore it is no surprise that former BRIT school student Adele has been nominated for THREE top awards which include British Female Solo Artist, Mastercard British Album of the Year and best British Single for Someone Like You.

However, just tipping the 23-year-old, is newcomer Ed Sheeran whom is also up for FOUR awards. Sheeran took to social networking site Twitter to share his shock stating that he was ‘.. a bit blown away, thank you for all your support!!’. Sheeran then spoke with radio station Capital FM explaining: ‘It’s surprising I would say is the word. You just don’t expect to be in categories with people like Adele and Coldplay on your first year. To have the album nomination was the one that surprised me. I won’t win it because Adele will win it.’

Sheeran has been nominated for British Male Solo Artist, British Breakthrough Act, Mastercard British Album of the Year (+) and British Single (The A Team). Alongside this Emeli Sandé has been noted already as 1st place for Critics Choice after her astonishing last 12 months on the music scene.

Sheeran and Adele will battle out the Mastercard British Album of the Year alongside huge acts which include Coldplay, Florence & The Machine and PJ Harvey.

2011: Amy Winehouse tribute

As if the car bombing and massacre in Norway which took the lives of over 70 innocent victims last Friday wasn’t disturbing enough news, Britain then took a step back in horror when it was revealed over news sources and Twitter that Grammy Award winning singer Amy Winehouse had also died on Saturday afternoon from a suspected drugs overdose at her home in Camden, North London.

To some there is no comparison, with remarkably insensitive comments appearing on social networking sites about Winehouse’s struggling past with alcohol and drugs, however, these ‘haters’ should be aware of one major similarity, and that is all parents included in these tragic events – including Amy’s father Mitch, who battled so desperately to help her through everything, have all lost their children far too young.

Messages flooded Twitter including those closest to Winehouse such as producer Mark Ronson – who worked with Winehouse on her 2006 album Back to Black producing hit singles such as Rehab, Tears Dry on Their Own and Valerie – tweeted “she was my musical soulmate (and) like a sister to me. This is one of the saddest days of my life.”

Winehouse however, will also be remembered for her own quirky street style and trademark beehive hair and black wing eyeliner, and for collaborating with brands such as Fred Perry creating her own clothing range; thus this news of her death has devastated the fashion world whom had taken her in. Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld had even once referred to Winehouse as a ‘style icon’.

Music channel Viva had already started playing Winehouse’s long list of catchy and iconic songs as a tribute before 11pm Saturday evening, reminding us what a fantastically talented singer she truly was, and making a poignant point that this is exactly what she will be remembered for.

Beyonce top act as she rocks it at Glastonbury 2011

Pop princess Beyonce rocked it hard at Glastonbury this weekend sparking a flurry of Twitter-mad followings and messages, including much love by funny man comedian James Corden who posted pics of himself and a friend partying hard to all her hits. Fans and Twitter-ites were in ore of her performance as she didn’t put a foot wrong on the night.

Starting with her number one hit Crazy in Love, Bey swiftly moved onto Single Ladies and am array of chart-topping hits from her past times with Destiny’s Child to her own solo material. Screaming to the crowd “You are witnessing a dream! I always wanted to be a rock star!”, Bey certainly didn’t disappoint and pulled out all the stops to show why she is the queen of the charts still after all this time.

Starting with a bang she let off fireworks throughout the show: wearing a bespoke gold sequined tailored jacket with 80s shoulder pads, Bey rocked out her inner goddess by channelling Diana Ross as a reference – via the hair but minus a skirt(!); and adding in what looked like a slim fitting bodice underneath (to steal Bey’s look just head to Marks & Spencer and purchasing a pair of their shape wear knickers for just £9.50 for a pack of two, adding in under a fabulous vintage jacket).

Whilst Bey was stomping her feet on the pyramid, smaller stages hosted bands such as The Streets (who received a massive welcoming and turn out for their final tour), and 70s favourite Kool & The Gang. I am just gutted that I missed all the action…

TOWIE stars hit Marbella

If you follow any of The Only Way Is Essex stars on Twitter (which, I assume a few of you do) then you’ll know by Joey Essex’s tweets that he boarded a plane to Marbella a few days ago, and since arriving has officially declared his villa was indeed REEM. So, it’s funny to see the cast and crew – who must have literally been mobbed by paparazzi – in their holiday wear hitting the beach and chilling out by the pool.

Pictures have circulated today showing three of the main stars flashing their flesh in skimpy bikini’s and looking fabulous. Jessica Wright, Lydia Bright and Lucy Mecklenburgh were all adorning skimpy string attire, and to be honest, who wouldn’t if you looked good in swimwear? Jessica stepped out in a slimming low-plunged ‘v’ swimsuit and Jacki O style sunglasses, whilst Lucy opted for one of this seasons hottest trends: block colour, trying out a sunshine yellow bikini. Lydia, on the other hand, decided to cover up her minuscule bandeau bikini with a long boob tube top.

But what seems to be baffling The Mail, and me, is Sam Faiers cover up? Why was the ex glamour model and best buddy Amy Childs sporting a more reserved look? The only conclusion – perhaps the Marbellan sun went away for a few hours…

However, there was no sign of bubbly Gemma Collins or Kirk Norcross’ dad Mick either; maybe they are keeping a wide berth from each other after stealing a cheeky snog at the TOWIE wrap after party last month?

David Beckham launches a clothing line

Ladies who lust after David Beckham be grateful as now you can dress your man like the super-star ‘soccer’ hero, as Becks himself is set to launch his own ‘bodywear’ collection and cologne.

“I have had the idea of doing a bodywear collection for some time now. The push to do something of my own really came as a result of my collaboration with Armani,” Becks told WWD.

Becks, 35, is set to launch his debut scent ‘Homme by David Beckham’ in September, however there is no set date yet for his underwear line. I’m thinking though that the clothing line will be laid back LA cool, with slim fitting Tees, boxer shorts and under pants that rival cK!

After four seasons of modelling underwear for ‘Armani’ Becks must have picked up a few notes and has started to translate them into his own designs. Not wanting to compete with pregnant wife Victoria, 36, Becks is said to be working alongside Victoria’s ex band manager of the Spice Girls, and now full-time business manager for her brands, Simon Fuller, to help launch his products.

Becks, who retired from football last year, and was the fifth highest-earning athlete in 2010, was also named as Forbes magazines 35th most powerful celebrity, which must bring some clout to his expanding empire.

Fuller also motioned that “David and I have a number of ambitious and exciting ideas in development across a broad range of categories. The next 10 years will see David evolve into being recognised, not just as an iconic sports figure, but also as an important entrepreneur.”

And they said that there was no life after football…

Hannah MacGibbon to be replaced by Clare Waight Keller at Chloé

What a difference a weekend can make.

As we’re all settling back into a sunny Monday morning suddenly (via Twitter of course) important fashion news was broken that designer Hannah MacGibbon is to leave French fashion house Chloé, and to be replaced by Pringle of Scotland designer Clare Waight Keller.

According to Elleuk.com Chloé announced that MacGibbon was leaving to ‘pursue new projects.’

‘We are grateful to Hannah for her contribution and commitment to Chloé,’ CEO Geoffroy de la Bourdonnaye stated. ‘Her considerable talents will be missed; we are proud to count Hannah among the hall of fame of great designers who have marked the history of Chloé since 1952. I wish Hannah well in her new projects.’

So, what next? Well Waight Keller, who resigned from Pringle of Scotland in March 2011 is said to be joining Chloé as Creative Director on June 1, 2011.

‘I am thrilled to be joining one of the most prestigious design houses in Paris,’ added Waight Keller. ‘Chloé is a brand that conveys a beautiful sense of effortless femininity and vivacious sophistication that I look forward to continuing into the next era.’

As for MacGibbon who knows. What we do know if that she played a fundamental part in changing the course of the fashion house into its romantic, breezy and chic style it is today and helped launched the house’s fragrances. So whatever endeavour she does will of course be good…
