Firstly apologies for no blogs for some time! I have been working with the very lovely InStyle.co.uk team covering as their Acting Web Editor for the interim but am now back to my normal routine as a freelancer. And the next few weeks will see some exciting changes to my schedule, but non more so than heading back to view the latest instalment of collections for Spring Summer 2014 at London Fashion Week. However, before the jet set fashionistas hit London they of course contend with the multitude of talent in New York at the bi-annual Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Designers to have already shown consist of Diane von Furstenberg, Thakoon, DKNY and Derek Lam amongst others. Aside from the return of the monochromatic palette there has also been a surge in gingham, yellow and navy. DKNY (who recently shot Rita Ora for their upcoming ad campaigns) is of course celebrating its 25th anniversary this year harking back to its original street style showcasing playful twists on denim, sports luxe and bright colours. The R.I.P singer also made an appearance on the catwalk showcasing Donna Karan’s forthcoming 90s inspired designs for next season.

Victoria Beckham followed suit with a phenomenal addition of bright colours amid crisp white shirts and jet black hues adding in amazing triangle prints and softer and looser silhouettes, making the perfect combination for both work and play for her SS14 range, while husband David Beckham, daughter Harper and Vogue US editor-in-cheif Anna Wintour all watched on from their front row seats.

First Lady fav Alexander Wang also impressed with his clerical collars, super-mini kilts, boxer style shorts, muted palette and stellar front row (Kanye West, Courtney Love and Terry Richardson) while one of my all time favourite designers (who creates amazing red carpet pieces) Monique Lhuillier opted for bright tangerine and cerise tones amongst a contrasting white, cream and gold backdrop… simply stunning.

NYFW continues until Thursday 12th September 2013…

Get The Celebrity Look: Cara Delevingne, Victoria Beckham And Jourdan Dunn

The Glamour Women Of The Year awards sent the Twitterverse into a flurry yesterday with models and celebrities posting endless ‘selfless’ alongside a barage of media coverage.

However, if you had a personal fav for best dressed celeb then it isn’t hard to emulate their designer look for less.

Take for example model-of-the-moment Cara Delevingne; the 20-year-old confessed ‘wifey’ to BFF Rita Ora opted to sneer the fashion pack in favour of a more laid back chic approach teaming a ‘Squeeze This’ [insert picture of a bottom] slogan tee with tailored trousers and on-trend pointed pumps. The cheeky tee depicting Rihanna’s bum was actually made in collaboration with photographer George Chin who snapped her when she performed at V Festival in 2011. Naturally the reduced £12 tee has sold out at Asos.com, but don’t despair as you can get your hands on a similar range of styles from www.motelrocks.com (as seen above). I love the Lichtenstein-esque one which costs just a mere £25.

Aside from Cara, fashion designer Victoria Beckham also wowed in her Maison Martin Margiela jumpsuit. Vic’s costs a staggering £1,196 from www.net-a-porter.com but you can get your hands on a much cheaper version from high street haven Coast who have created this stylish Rozelda jumpsuit for £115.

Lastly,  I was stunned at just how gorgeous and svelte model Jourdan Dunn looked at the awards in a Victoria Beckham dress (that would have cost in excess of £1,500+). This style suits all shapes as it looks just as great on curves as it does on petite frames. You can also get the look for under £150 with Forever Unique’s new Selfish brand. Just mix their sheer body alongside a black pencil skirt and gold belt for a winning combination.

Happy Shopping!

#GlamourAwards 2013: Best And Worst Dressed

Last night saw the 10th anniversary of the Glamour Women Of The Year awards picked up by global superstar turned fashion designer Victoria Beckham.

Looking sophisticated in a black Maison Martin Margiela jumpsuit Victoria also brought along her eldest son Brooklyn to accompany her to the event.

Alongside Victoria hitting the best dressed category was singing sensation Rita Ora. Rita, who also picked up an award for best Solo Artist Of The Year from ‘wifey’ Cara Delevingne, looked gorgeous in a silver/grey Marchesa gown. Both girls posted an assortment of Twitter and Instagram selfless (left) of themselves at the awards.

Hitting a fashion high note on the night was Les Misérables starlet Samantha Barks who shone in a neon pink cocktail dress alongside (swoon) new beau David Gandy. The model presented her with an award (with Jourdan Dunn) for the Pandora Breakthrough Award. Gandy’s ex Mollie King from The Saturday’s was also on-site to pick up another award for Band Of The Year with fellow band members Frankie Sandford, Una Healy and Vanessa White, ruling the red carpet with her backless ruby-red evening gown. Ellie Goulding also looked sensational in a printed maxi complete with lace trims, whilst presenter Fearne Cotton was back to her old svelte frame (already) adorning a gorge bright blue Jonathan Saunders shift dress.

Jumpsuits were it seemed a theme of the night as Radio 1 presenter Gemma Cairney, VB, and Laura Haddock all opted for them.

However there was also a plethora of bad outfits namely Jessie J’s flamenco style tunic and trouser combination, whilst singer VV Brown failed to impress in a lemon pastel ensemble with a huge overlay of material that seemed to smother her.

Legend of hair Vidal Sassoon dies aged 84

Vidal Sasson and Mary Quant

If you are really into styles and change your hair to follow every celebrity such as the ‘Pob’ al la Victoria Beckham or the Cheryl Cole long bob then remind yourself quickly where these inspirational looks came from: Vidal Sasson.

The master of hair died yesterday aged 84 of natural causes after a long battle with leukaemia at his LA home.

British born Sasson was known for his innovative styles in the 1960s bringing to the party his 5-point-cut which liberated women’s hairstyles after a decade or more of wash and dry beehives and bouffants. Sassoon soon became the darling hair stylist of Europe with his infamous “wash and wear hair” which enabled women to just wash and go; something that had never been possible before. Sassoon was also a huge fixture on the 1960s swinging Carnaby fashion scene, styling models for fashion designer Mary Quant. Aside from this he built up a beauty empire of under his name and released several autobiography’s on his life amongst a long list of other projects.

Born in Hammersmith, London on 17 January 1928 Sasson was soon evacuated during the war to an orphanage. He then returned to London aged 17  where it was noted that his ‘mother took him to a barber shop in Whitechapel and insisted he was given an apprenticeship,’; the rest they say is history.

However, he will always be remembered as a genius of hair and a revolutionary giant for his time.

RIP Vidal Sasson.

Victoria Beckham creates matching outfits for Harper Seven

If my mum were famous and I was a baby, then undoubtedly I’d want her to be Victoria Beckham (just imagine all those clothes/shoes/handbags!).

However, Harper Beckham doesn’t have to wish and furthermore super star mother Victoria Beckham decided that anything she can wear, Harper should wear better. Creating her own wardrobe on their current trip to Beijing Mrs Beckham has cutely coordinated matching (somewhat) outfits for her and baby Harper Seven to adorn. Albeit there not grossly top-to-toe matchy matchy, but in true Posh style are similarly coordinated to pull off the ever stylish chic look Victoria oozes.

So far Victoria has tweeted pics of three outfits which include a grey shift with black cuffs and collar (from her AW12 collection) and a cute patterned tunic for Harper; which they adorned for the launch of the ‘baby’ Range Rover Evoque. Then came a sexy LBD for mum and adorable checked top complete with neck bow, blue jeans and tiny converse for baby Harper and finally – my fav – a matching cuffs and collar shift dress for VB and checked dress and shoes for her mini-me.

As Victoria races around the Chinese capital on her promotional pit-stop it seems that herself and Harper can do no wrong style wise. Today she again tweeted fun images of herself in Starbucks and then later on set as she got ready to promote her latest collaboration with JOYCE boutique  – the mum-of-four also showcased a brand new snake skin black handbag with gold chains which she had created especially for the occasion.

New York Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2012/13 trend: socks in boots

When New York Fashion Week launched last Thursday (9 February 2012) no-one could foresee what trends were instantly going to be picked up within days, however, already it seems that British designer Victoria Beckham has started her own one with the socks in boots trend via her models adorning cute wooly knit socks under fabulous militant heels supplied by Christian Louboutin.

Models at Marc by Marc Jacobs wear Pantherella socks in boots

Hot on her heels was designer to the stars and several other fashion houses, Marc Jacobs, whom also added the same style Pantherella  socks to pop out of his models Dr Martin style flat boots for his Marc by Marc Jacobs collection. Pantherella, whom are incidentally celebrating their 75th anniversary this year, handed over a rich palette of charcoal, dark blue, bright red, grey and dark camel colours to the designer for the models to adorn.

Veteran designer Vera Wang also opted for the sock/boot combo encompassing mary-jane heels at one point with thinner wool designs.

However, this does look like the most fabulous accessories trend so far to emerge out of NYFW so I would bet my Michael Kors watch (apparently everyone in fashion has one) that come friday all the quirky fashion assistants and interns at London Fashion Week will have picked up on this and be rocking their bare legs and socks in boots…

Pantherella is available at Liberty’s and http://www.MrPorter.com

How to buy Spring/Summer 2012 trends from the sales

My favourite thing in the world, apart from good food and drink, is shopping. So it comes as no surprise that I have eyed a fabulous array of clothing in the January sales that are simply must-have pieces. However, if you are a savvy sale shopper then you will know that it’s all about wading through the re-hashed seasonal stuff (yes all shops end up cracking out items that are 4/5 seasons old amidst the new) to find those few ‘gold-dust’ classic pieces that will last you the test of time i.e. a classic shift dress, smart blazer and your favourite skinny jeans. Aside from this if you are really clever and fashion forward then you will spot those rare items that you know are perfect for the season ahead.

Mine has come in the form of a skirt courtesy of designer Emma Cook from Cocosa.com. This silk layered skirt in black and white comes with remnants of sea shells and bubbles; perfect for the aquatic theme which swept through the majority of shows last September for Spring/Summer 2012 and which was seen at Holly Fulton, Mary Katrantzou, Versace, Chanel and Alexander McQueen amongst others.

Alongside this was a flurry of deep blue hues from midnight to sapphire and beyond as shown at Armani, Yves Saint Laurent and Victoria Beckham. If you are keen on keeping a demure profile opt for these shades in a silk, satin or lace tops, skirts and dresses which which should flow perfectly as you walk through the office or as you hit the dance floor on a night out. My favourite is a Notte by Marchesa evening dress from Net-a-porter.com reduced from £575 to £287.50.

Lastly the spring/summer 2012 catwalks were full, as you would imagine, of clashing prints, lace and exploding floral content. You can find these sorts of prints and materials everywhere so try not to be a wall flower and opt for an exciting new print that flatters your shape and complexion. Start by looking through high street stores such as Topshop, Dorothy Perkins and Zara, but if you want to splurge then head to TheOutnet.com for some series retail therapy and purchase something like this fabulous Aztec inspired print top from Diane von Furstenberg (was £445 now £178).
